SPRING 2012 Vendor Feature: Daddy’s Button Shirt

Daddy’s Button Shirt

After being an elementary school media specialist for 35 years, I am enjoying retirement and working on projects that I always wanted to make. I focus on reusing items such as men’s shirts and wool sweaters, making them into bags, scarves, stuffed animals and children’s clothing. My husband works on a tugboat and our 2 children are grown, so it is usually just the dog and me at home. I enjoy learning new techniques and staying busy with my projects. I can’t wait for the show since this is my first time as a vendor!

Besides crafting, what other things do you like to do? I read at least a book a week.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? Play the piano or banjo.

If you had to only work on one project for the next year, what would it be? Probably a major knitting project like an afghan made with gorgeous koigu yarn.

What’s something you’ve done that you think no other vendor has done? Visited Japan for 3 weeks on a Japanese Fulbright Memorial Fund educational scholarship.

Spring 2012 Vendor Feature: SWEET SUMMER BABY

Sweet Summer Baby
shop | facebook

I’ve been in the business of creating since I was a little girl. I’ve always found time to sew and try new crafty things like woodburning, jewelry-making, and painting. When I left my job in publishing after my daughter was born, I took a leap and decided to make a go at selling my handmade children’s clothing and accessories online. Everything I make is inspired by my family, and I love sharing my creative style with other kids and their families. I hope to meet a lot of new people at the Homespun Chic Marketplace and share the creative energy!

Holiday 2011 Vendor Feature: TWO FLORIDA GIRLS

Two Florida Girls
shop | facebook

We are two sisters, born and raised in the Sunshine State. We love our God, our family and our home state. 🙂 We hope you find something that makes you smile and think of sun-filled days! Our items are great as fun, affordable gifts for family, friends, kids, coworkers, teachers, coaches…or heck, even yourself!

We opened our shop almost three years ago after Kati (the sewer) made Amy (the computer girl) a coffee cozy for her birthday. Amy said, “I love these! We could sell them!” And the rest, as they say, is history. Since then, we’ve developed new products and have expanded beyond the coffee cozy. In addition to our first item, we now create gadget cozies, bean bags, onesies, shirts and hair clips. And, see that adorable little blond up there? She’s sporting our newest product–messy ruffle headbands!

We’ve participated in Homespun Chic Marketplace since the first show last fall and we’re now coordinating the show. We’re excited to see you there and look forward to meeting everyone!

Holiday 2011 Vendor Feature: THE SPUNKY STORK

the Spunky Stork
shop | blog | facebook

With no children of her own, Aliya Jiwa started a baby clothing company called the Spunky Stork out of the kitchen of her Manhattan apartment. Yes, thekitchen. Why? In short, she was getting tired of buying pastel-hued, butterfly-slash-teddy bear-riddled baby shower presents for her friends… all of whom are emphatically anti-pastel anything. Two years later, she still has no children, but she quit her job as a hospitality executive and now operates her online organic clothing business in a proper studio. So, what makes a childless, spicy-food eating, cowboy boot-wearing, British Indian an expert on kid’s clothing? Nothing. But visit her site to see her ridiculously adorable designs!

Holiday 2011 Vendor Feature: BABYMAMMA BOUTIQUE

Babymamma Boutique
shop | facebook

I’m a wife and mother of two kids. I am not a social butterfly by any means. I enjoy being at home with my family. I got extra crafty after having my children. I think momhood does something to some of us. I am constantly keeping busy and find it hard to slow down. I came up with my Etsy Lantern nightlights after receiving a tub of fabric from a friend. I was determined to make something of it. I made pillowcase dresses, purses, anything I could think to make. I finally came to make the lanterns and I really enjoy creating them. The name of my shop came about when I was attempting to register on Etsy and all the names I attempted were taken. So I thought of something odd and it accepted “Babymamma.” I couldn’t change it at the time, so I opened my shop as the Babymamma Boutique and it has grown on me.

Get To Know Jill of Babymamma Boutique

What’s the #1 played song on your iPod? I don’t own an iPod. I have an old phone that my friends make fun of.

What’s something you’ve done that you think no other vendor has done? Rubbed lotion all over a giraffe.

What’s your favorite crafting snack? I love my coffee! When I’m crafting, sometimes I forget to eat in the mornings, but I always have my coffee!

Besides crafting, what other things do you like to do? Other than crafting, I enjoy baking.  I like making crazy cakes for my kids’ birthday parties.
